Grace Among the Ruins

For some, the day started with coffee and devos—slow sips and quiet thoughts, reflecting on the day of Pentecost.

After breakfast, the vans pulled up and we packed in like sardines, music up and voices loud. Dr. Lawson’s “worship playlist” filled the air, and somewhere between Greek homes and highway turns, we caught a word from the prophetess herself, T. Swift. #IYKYK

Before the main attraction, we took a quick little jog at the starting line of the original marathon. Fun fact: Dr. Lawson will run this very marathon in November of 2025.

After our jog, we were back in the vans for part two: Ramnous.

Ramnous is tucked into the hills, quiet and wild, where the ruins don’t beg for attention but still hold power.

It’s the ancient home of the temple of Nemesis, the goddess of justice and revenge.

Her temple stood watch over the coast, where the remains stood silent and strong, with the weight of consequence still lingering in the air.

When you think about it, sometimes we view our God through the same lens — silent and strong, watching over the coast of our lives, waiting to pass out consequences for our mistakes.

How far from the truth is that?

Our God draws near, even when we attempt to run marathons away from him. He keeps no record of wrong. He mends what’s broken, waits with kindness. Where Nemesis demands revenge, God offers grace.

Grace was also extended to our legs as we hiked down to the old city of Ramnous.

The hike was steep, the sun unforgiving, but the view and rich history made you forget about the spider webs trying to take you out.

We hiked through the ancient city, stone paths cracked with time and each step allowing us to walk through someone else’s story.

The daily adventures ended with a trip to a local market where we shared snacks, got hydrated, and headed back to the Greek Bible College to munch on some incredible traditional gyros.

Day 5 in Greece was a SUCCESS! Now, it's time for a Sunday afternoon nap.
