The Healing Springs at Lake Vouliagmeni
Today we traveled to Lake Vouliagmeni. Lake Vouliagmeni is a small
brackish-water lake that is fed by underground currents seeping through
the mass of Mount Hymettus located to the south of Vouliagmeni, Athens Greece.
While researching I was shocked to learn that this lagoon formed over two-thousand
years ago. It was once a large cave that collapsed after an earthquake.
Lake Vouliagmeni is a special place because it is warm and it is supplied by warm seawater through underground channels which move through a network of underground caves. The temperature never falls below 18 degrees C, which is 64.4 Fahrenheit. This water was very cool today to cool for me to fully submerge myself in it.
Lake Vouliagmeni hosts the only existing population of a
species of sea anemone, Paranemonia Vouliagmeniensis. It has been declared a
natural monument by the Greek State and is part of Nature 2000 because it is an
endangered species.
Another special attraction at Lake Vouliagmeni are the little fish, which are called Garra Rufa, also known as Doctor Fish. It has been said that the components of the water, along with the indigenous fish help create healing. The water temperature helps relieve muscular and connective tissue. Carbonates which aid in GI function and increase intestine and gallbladder contractility which helps with digestion. There were a host of other health challenges that many believe the healing springs can help with. If you are interested please click the link below.

When I first arrived at Lake Vouliagmeni, I was anxious about
getting a pedi by the small fish by letting them nibble on my feet. Initially,
I thought it would be easy, but it quickly proved to be a hard task for me. I
think it was because it put me out of my comfort zone. Little fish nibbling on
my feet was somethin I was unfamiliar with . I sat there for over an hour trying
to conquer that fear. While I was sitting there I smiled and ask myself a
question. “Isn’t this just like God?” How many times has He tried to pull us
into unfamiliar territory and we resist because it pulls us out of our comfort
zone. However, when we submit to the Holy Spirit in due time, God will lead us
to our expected end no matter how long it may take.
I
was extremely happy that I was able to over come that fear because the scripture
tells us that God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and
a sound mind. I spent most of my day at the healing spring submitting to the
will of the little fish😊
