I 🩵 Poros
I think we can all agree that Poros has welcomed us with open arms and capture our hearts with its beautiful waters and amazing food. I am truly so thankful that we had a free day to enjoy doing whatever we felt like would bring us rest, joy, and an opportunity to recharge. This cute island gave everyone today different adventures and experiences.
Some people chose adrenaline spiking water sport experiences while others roamed the island riding ATV’s & taking in the beautiful views. There was something for every one to enjoy and experience.
I chose to take a boat ride with friends and the experience did not disappoint. I had never taken a boat ride before so this was a core memory for me and I think it’s a cool story to be able and say that my first boat ride was in the Mediterranean Sea. One of my favorite ways to relax is listening to the ocean and this little adventure gave me the opportunity to recharge myself by getting to take in the sounds of the ocean. It was so fun getting to enjoy the scenery as we cruised down the water. At one point we came across a few caves and it truly felt like a moment out of a movie. I was just waiting for my legs to turn into a fish tail and my mermaid dreams to come true. Jumping off the boat quickly became one of our favorite things to do every time we threw the anchor and staying in an area to swim and take in the sun. My happy place was being in the water, relaxing on a donut floaty.
This boat trip also taught me how to throw an anchor properly and bring it back up. It really isn’t rocket science but it was a cool experience and God reminded me of Hebrews 6:19. Just like a physical anchor is firm and secure to make sure the boat does not float away; our hope in Christ, who He is and what He has done on our behalf is strong enough to sustain us as we walk through both good and bad moments throughout our life. We have a steadfast hope.
The day could not have ended on a more perfect note. Our dinner tonight was so memorable and probably one of my favorite moments we have shared on this trip so far. Not many people can say that a restaurant closed down just to serve their group a special 3 course meal. It was a special night filled with friends, food, and fellowship. The main course of the night brought me back childhood memories. Every Saturday growing up, my dad would bring home lunch from the small Greek restaurant next to the auto shop he worked at. I remember being a fan of the yummy chicken and the lemon pepper seasoned potato was always too much for me to finish but I remember it tasting so good. This was a little tradition we had for a long time until the little restaurant closed down. Here I am all these years later, enjoying the same meal crafted from a family recipe and enjoying the company of new family. I have enjoyed seeing how the culture we’ve immersed ourselves in to appreciates slowing down and enjoying the presence of one of another whether it be at a dinner or just a simple gathering. The Greeks know how to do fellowship.
Our time at dinner ended on an even higher note when dessert was served. The chef truly outdid herself with the amazing sweets. I think I’ll be daydreaming about the banoffee pie for the rest of the summer. After dinner, a group of us took a ride on our ATV’s into downtown to walk around, shop a little, and of course enjoy some ice cream. Even though my palette was satisfied with the dreamt desserts, I could not leave Poros without trying the ice cream.
I think Poros will hold a special place in all of our hearts and I’m so thankful we were given the opportunity to enjoy this gem of an island.
