Exploring Evia

Today was an early morning, breakfast at 6:30am and meeting at the bus by  7:00am and on the ferry by 8:00am. The ferry ride was fun, and I personally enjoy watching the seagulls fly around, soaring in the water for fish and some treats people would throw at them. Looking at the beautiful birds flying freely reminded me of the passage in Matthew 6:26-30 and reflect on how our worries take us away from enjoying the beautiful blessing that God offers us each day. Understanding that God got me, help me realize, I do not need to worry about tomorrow, since God’s plans are perfect and no matter the circumstance, He will provide.

We arrived to Evia, the second-largest Greek island and it is just an hour away from Athens. As we all gathered and observed amazed, the green and blue mediterranean waters,  we got some recommendations and walked towards the beach to pick a lounging chair. Some jumped into the water, and some enjoyed the sun.  We also ordered some drinks and food to be able to keep our chairs.

After a while I decided to jump in the water and it was very cold. There were many rocks on the shore but once I made a few difficult steps and hurt my feet I was able to reach the soft sand. As I reflected, this is life sometimes we need to go through difficult moments just to learn how beautiful things await on the other side. It’s a matter of enhancing every moment and waiting for the best. Swimming in the Mediterranean’s waters was an incredible experience not just because the water was so clear, cold and easy to float, but also because the view was incredible. As I submerge into the waters and ascend, my senses were astonished with the beauty of the blue sky, eclectic town and the mountains.

Lunch time was such a treat! The view was astonishing and the sea breeze felt refreshing on my skin. I enjoyed the seafood, and I loved trying new dishes today such as the spicy feta dip and the fried zucchini which had a subtle mint flavor that I especially enjoyed.

Today we had the opportunity to replenish from a week full of expectations,  mixed emotions, learning, reflecting, making new connections, long days and short nights. I'm glad we learned a valuable lesson, that will help us to survive once we dive in to the waters of Counseling. This looks like self care, taking moments to rest, recharge our energy, re-evaluating our selves to be disconnected while being connected with our selves as we are present.
