Class Day 2!
Friday, June 7th 2024
Today was a class day! Class day number 2 to be exact. We have officially been in Greece for about a week so the adjustment to this new culture has been simultaneously exhausting and exhilarating all in one. We had breakfast in the morning which was lovely. We had something new for breakfast this morning, it reminded me of a Greek version of a cinnamon roll! It was delicious and I was excited to have that to start off the class day.
Class day #2 was a great experience and I have loved being able to learn more about everyone in the class on a deeper level through the presentations. The open dialogue that we had during the beginning of class was also wonderful to listen to and be apart of because it has given us an opportunity to reflect on how we have been feeling during the trip thus far and how we have handled these adjustments in both positive and negative ways. I related with so many people during the open dialogue and I truly appreciated having the discussion. I am feeling extremely grateful for the friendships that have been created with the group of students here and connecting with everyone on a deeper level has made this experience more impactful than I could have imagined. We have all come together as one through the diversity of the group and it has been refreshing to be able to see the commonalities of us through our love for Christ and for others.
The presentations have really opened my eyes to what its like to sit in a space of vulnerability and honesty. I did not realize until today how emotionally taxing it can be to take in information and personal, heartfelt stories from others. I am a natural empath, so I feel that I was taking on the emotions of the experiences my peers have endured. This has given me a light into what the counseling world may feel like in the future. It is both a beautiful experience, as well as a learning curve in realizing how important it will be to practice self care to stay balanced on the positive side of life while listening to personal pains that individuals have experienced. Through this experience in class, I have also found similarities in the type of people us students are and why we have chosen to pursue this field. The similarities and differences are just amazing to listen to because it makes me realize how God has affected all of us in a way that has pushed us into the helping profession. I am so excited to listen to the rest of our classmates stories during class tomorrow!
After class we were able to take the rest of the day to replenish and recharge in ways that worked best for us. I know many students went to the mall, the beach, or into town. I personally stayed back on campus and took some alone time to myself. This alone time was very necessary for me and I am feeling much more alive and ready for the rest of the week now that I had this evening to relax. We had dinner in the evening and later got some delicious ice cream with Dr. Lawson. I am LOVING the ice cream, I am definitely going to miss it when we are back in the states!!
