Welcome to Our Story!

Welcome to our blog!  We are members of Southeastern University's Masters of Professional Counseling Program, and we are so excited to share our adventure with you that will be beginning later this week!  We will soon be embarking on an almost 3 week trip to Greece, where our students will be taking a Social and Cultural Counseling course in an immersive experience.  They will get to truly learn what it means to move beyond our own ideas and prejudices to truly see the person in front of us.

A huge theme of this trip and process is found in the idea of story.  Kendrick Lamar raps/writes, "If I'm gonna tell a real story, I'm gonna start with my name."  It is always my goal to learn all of my student's names as quickly as possible.  Someone's name matters.  It is the beginning of getting to know them...who they are...what makes up the events of their life....where they find meaning.  We so often forget to stop and take the time to hear and learn someone's story.  But I promise that when you do, issues fall to the side.  Differences take a backseat.  We are all more human than otherwise, and when you know someone's story, you will see their humanity first.  It is where love grows.

On this trip, we invite our students into a larger story and we give them the opportunity to get to know themselves in a new and deeper way.  They will get to meet God in a more intimate way.  And they will come to know others with new eyes.  This blog will record our journey towards a greater understanding of love.  We will not emerge the same at the end of this trip as we begin.  And we will do it together.

Come join us and take a peek into what we are learning and experiencing!  Our journey begins later this week, and there will be at least one blog entry most every day for the next few weeks starting on Thursday or Friday of this week.  We can't wait to see what lies ahead!
