Welcome!

Welcome to our blog!  We are part of Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, and our students are in the Master's of Professional Counseling program.  Each summer, we have the opportunity to take our students to Greece and allow them to take a Multicultural Counseling class while immersed in a new and different culture.

Going overseas puts each of us outside of our comfort zones and helps us remember that the world is much bigger than we sometimes realize.  Additionally, it helps show us experientially how alike we humans really are.  As people, we all look at the world through the lens of our own experience and the things we have gone through and learned.  That is normal.  The tricky part is that we assume everyone else sees the world the exact same way that we do and if they don't, we assume something is wrong with them.  It is imperative that we learn how to hold space for difference and to understand that different is just different.  Sometimes the easiest way to do that is to go somewhere new where we are uncomfortable and seen as the different ones and see what it feels like.  These students will be much better counselors for their clients and much better humans because of all they will learn on this trip.

It is truly a life-changing experience, and we want to invite you along for the ride!  Throughout our trip, students will be taking turns blogging about our adventures and all that we are learning while in Greece.  So check back regularly and stay tuned for some incredible adventures and reflections!
